Vastu Shastra

                                             Vastu Shastra is an ancient Indian architectural science that focuses on creating harmony between human living spaces and the natural forces of the universe. It is often referred to as the "science of architecture" and is used in designing homes, offices, temples, and other structures to ensure they are in sync with natural elements like the earth, water, fire, air, and space.

1. Orientation: The placement of buildings and rooms should align with the cardinal directions (North, South, East, West) to maximize positive energy. For instance, the main entrance is often recommended to face the east or north.
2. Elements: Vastu emphasizes the balance of the five natural elements (Panchabhutas) – Earth, Water  Fire , Air , and Space. Proper balancing of these elements within a space is believed to bring prosperity and well-being.

  Directions & location of the Main Door:

• North-East :The Northeast direction is the most auspicious for the main door. It is associated with prosperity, growth, and positive energy. This direction is considered highly favorable for both residential and commercial buildings.
• East:The East is associated with the rising sun, symbolizing new beginnings and positive energy. A main door facing the East is believed to bring health, wealth, and happiness.
• North:The North is governed by the god of wealth, Kubera, and is considered very auspicious. A main door facing the North direction can bring prosperity, success, and abundance to the household.

          Secondary Directions:

• West: The West direction is considered neutral in Vastu. A main door facing West is acceptable but should be balanced with appropriate Vastu remedies, as it is not as favorable as the Northeast, East, or North.
• South-East :A main door in the Southeast is generally not recommended unless unavoidable. If placed here, it can create conflicts and financial issues. Vastu remedies may be required to mitigate negative effects.
• South-West :The Southwest direction is typically avoided for the main entrance, as it can bring in negative energy, leading to problems related to health, relationships, and finances.

             Directions to Avoid: South:

• The South direction is generally considered inauspicious for the main entrance. If the door is placed in this direction, it can lead to health issues, legal troubles, and financial instability. If unavoidable, Vastu remedies should be applied.
• North-West :The Northwest is also not ideal for the main entrance as it is associated with the air element, which can create instability. However, if necessary, it can be used with appropriate Vastu adjustments.

             Other Important Considerations:

• Main Door Size: The main door should be the largest door in the house and should open fully without any obstructions. It should also be taller and more prominent than other doors in the home.
• Main Door Material: Solid wood is considered the best material for the main door, symbolizing strength and stability. Avoid using doors made of glass or other fragile materials.
• Threshold: It is advisable to have a threshold at the main door to prevent loss of wealth and maintain positive energy inside the home.

 Ideal bed room 's Placement 

• Master Bedroom: Should ideally be located in the Southwest corner of the house. This direction is associated with stability and strength.
• Guest Bedroom or Children's Bedroom: Can be placed in the Northwest direction.
• Northeast Bedroom: It is generally not recommended to have a bedroom in the Northeast as this area is considered sacred and should be kept light and open.
• Southeast Bedroom: Avoid this direction for the master bedroom as it is associated with the fire element, which can lead to conflicts and health issues.
• South Bedroom: The South is also acceptable for a bedroom but less ideal than the Southwest.

         Direction of the Bed (Cot) Placement: Head Facing:

• The South direction is considered the best for placing the head while sleeping. This is believed to enhance health, longevity, and peaceful sleep.
• East is also a good direction for the head, promoting good health and growth, especially for children.
• Avoid placing your head towards the North while sleeping, as it is believed to disrupt sleep and could lead to health problems.
• West direction is generally avoided for the head placement, though it may be acceptable for certain individuals.
• Avoid placing the bed directly under a beam or with the headboard against a shared wall with a bathroom or toilet.
• Mirror Placement: Avoid having a mirror directly facing the bed, as it is believed to reflect negative energy and cause disturbances in sleep.
• Clutter-Free Space: Ensure the area under the bed is clutter-free to maintain a positive flow of energy.

 Ideal Location for the Kitchen:

• Southeast Direction: The Southeast (Agni Kon) corner of the house is considered the most auspicious location for the kitchen. This direction is ruled by the fire element, making it the best place for cooking activities. 
• Northwest Direction: If the Southeast is not available, the Northwest (Vayu Kon) direction is the second-best option. While it is associated with the air element, it is still favorable for kitchen placement.

 Avoid These Locations:

• Northeast: The kitchen should not be located in the Northeast , as this direction is sacred and should be kept light and clean, free from the fire element.
• Southwest: Avoid placing the kitchen in the Southwest  direction, as it can lead to conflicts and financial issues.

 Placement of Cooking Ranges (Stove): Facing Direction:

• The person cooking should ideally face the East direction while cooking. This is considered to bring positive energy and good health to the family. If facing East is not possible, North is the next best direction. However, avoid facing the South while cooking, as it is believed to create health problems and stress.
• Position of the Stove:
• The stove should be placed in such a way that it is not directly under a window or a ventilator. It should also not be directly in line with the entrance door of the kitchen.
• Ensure there is a gap between the stove and the sink, as water and fire are opposing elements in Vastu. If they are too close, it can create imbalance and lead to conflicts.

• Kitchen Door: The kitchen door should open clockwise and should ideally be placed in the North, East, or West walls.
• Storage: The storage of grains, spices, and utensils should be in the South or West direction, ensuring that these areas are well-organized and clutter-free.
• Water Sources: The sink or water source should ideally be placed in the Northeast corner of the kitchen, away from the stove.
• Refrigerator: If placed in the kitchen, the refrigerator should be in the Southwest, West, or South direction, but avoid placing it in the Northeast.

Ideal Location for the Pooja Room:

• Northeast :The Northeast corner of the house is the most auspicious location for the pooja room. This direction is associated with divine energy and is considered the best place for spiritual activities. The Northeast direction receives the first rays of the sun, which is believed to be purifying and energizing.
• East:If the Northeast is not available, the East direction is the next best option. The East is associated with the rising sun and symbolizes new beginnings and spiritual enlightenment.
• North:The North direction is also considered a good location for the pooja room, as it is associated with prosperity and positivity.

             Directions to Avoid:

• Southwest : The Southwest direction should be avoided for the pooja room, as it is associated with the earth element, which may ground spiritual energy rather than uplift it.
• Southeast :The Southeast is related to the fire element and is not suitable for the pooja room, as it may create disturbances and conflicts.
• Northwest :The Northwest direction, related to the air element, should also be avoided for the pooja room, as it can create instability in spiritual practices.
• South:The South direction is generally not recommended for the pooja room, as it is believed to attract negative energies that can affect the sanctity of the space.

            Placement of Deities and Idols:

• Facing Direction: The idols or deities in the pooja room should face the East or West direction. Worshippers should ideally face the East direction while praying.

• Height and Placement: The idols should be placed on a raised platform or altar and should not be directly on the floor. The height of the idols should be such that they are at the level of the heart of the worshipper when seated.

           Design Considerations:

• Shape: The pooja room should ideally be square or rectangular in shape. Avoid irregular or odd shapes for this sacred space.
• Door: The pooja room should have a door, preferably made of wood, to maintain its sanctity. The door should open clockwise and can have auspicious symbols or carvings.
• Lighting: The pooja room should be well-lit, preferably with natural light. You can also use lamps or diyas to enhance the spiritual ambiance.
• Colors: Use light and soothing colors like white, light yellow, or pastel shades in the pooja room to create a peaceful environment.

Ideal Locations for Toilet and WC:

• Northwest : The Northwest direction is considered the best location for toilets and WCs. This direction is associated with the air element, which helps in the swift disposal of waste, preventing the accumulation of negative energy.
• Southeast : If the Northwest is not available, the Southeast direction is the second-best option. However, it is more suitable for toilets rather than the main WC, as this area is associated with the fire element, and placing a toilet here can balance out excess fire energy.

             Directions to Avoid:

• Northeast : The Northeast direction is the most sacred and should never have a toilet or WC. This area is reserved for spiritual and sacred activities and placing a toilet here can disturb the positive energy and bring negativity to the household.
• Southwest : The Southwest is associated with stability and strength, making it unsuitable for toilets and WCs. Placing a toilet in this direction can lead to financial issues, health problems, and relationship conflicts.
• Center :The center of the house, known as the Brahmasthan, should always be kept open and free from heavy structures like toilets. This area is considered the heart of the home, and any disturbance here can disrupt the overall energy balance.

               Additional Considerations:

• Toilet Seat Orientation: The toilet seat should ideally be placed in such a way that the person using it faces either the North or South direction. Avoid facing East or West while using the toilet.

Sump (Water Storage Tank) Ideal Location:

• The Northeast direction is the most auspicious location for the sump. The Northeast is considered sacred and is associated with water and prosperity. Placing the sump here ensures a positive flow of energy and financial well-being.
• North or East: If the Northeast is not possible, the North or East directions are also favorable for the sump.

           Directions to Avoid:

• Southwest : Placing the sump in the Southwest direction can lead to financial losses, health issues, and a decrease in stability. This direction should be avoided at all costs.
• Southeast  & Northwest : These directions are not ideal for water storage as they can disrupt the balance of energy in the house.

Septic Tank Ideal Location:

• The Northwest  direction is the most suitable for the septic tank. This direction helps in the smooth disposal of waste without affecting the positive energy in the home.

             Directions to Avoid:

• Northeast : The Northeast is highly sacred and should never have a septic tank, as it can bring negative energy and health problems.
• Southwest : Avoid placing the septic tank in the Southwest as it can cause severe financial and health issues.
• Center : The center of the house, or Brahmasthan, should be kept open and free from heavy structures like septic tanks to maintain the balance of energy.

 Transformer Yard Ideal Location:

• The Southeast  direction is ideal for the transformer yard, as this direction is associated with the fire element. Electrical equipment like transformers aligns well with the energy in this direction.
• Directions to Avoid:
• Northeast  & Southwest : Avoid placing the transformer yard in these directions, as it can disturb the flow of positive energy and create instability in the household.
• East or West: These directions can also be considered if the Southeast is not available, but the placement should be balanced with other Vastu elements.

Diesel Generator (DG)  Ideal Location:

• The Southeast  direction is also ideal for placing the diesel generator, as this area is linked to the fire element, making it suitable for power-related equipment.
• South or West: These directions can be considered secondary options for placing the DG.
• Directions to Avoid:
• Northeast : The Northeast should be avoided for the DG, as this is a sacred and calm area that should not be disturbed by heavy machinery or noise.
• Southwest : Avoid placing the DG in the Southwest, as it can lead to energy imbalances and potential issues with stability and health.
